Summary

Zhou Ming is a world-renowned engineering software expert who left his leadership role at US-based global engineering giant Altair in 2025 to become a chair professor and the first dean of the College of Engineering at the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) in Ningbo, China. He is best known as the mastermind behind key industrial simulation software used in designing aircraft including the Boeing 787 and Airbus A380.

At Altair, Zhou helped develop and lead the OptiStruct and other structural optimisation tools that are now standard in aerospace, automotive, and civil engineering industries worldwide. His software has shaped how engineers design complex structures to be lighter, stronger, and more efficient.

At EIT Ningbo, Zhou is establishing a world-class research and development team for engineering software and optimisation design technology, with a focus on core engineering software that supports China's ambitions for technological autonomy in advanced manufacturing and aerospace.
