Summary
Jie Shen is a mathematician specializing in numerical analysis, spectral methods, and computational fluid dynamics who left his position as Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University, where he also directed the Center for Computational and Applied Mathematics, to become Chair Professor and Dean of the School of Mathematical Science at the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) in Ningbo, China, in 2023.
Shen met his wife and fellow mathematician Min Chen in 1978 at Peking University's Department of Mathematics, both having taken the college entrance exam when it resumed in 1977 after being suspended for over a decade during the Cultural Revolution. Shen's research spans numerical analysis, spectral methods, computational fluid dynamics, and computational materials science, and his work has been cited more than 35,000 times.
