Summary
Prof. Peipei Chen has joined the School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong as an Assistant Professor (under the Presidential Assistant Professor Scheme). She received her PhD from the Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction at University College London in 2024 and subsequently worked as a Research Associate in the Energy Policy Research Group at the University of Cambridge. Prof. Chen has authored around 20 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as Nature Energy, Nature Climate Change, Nature Chemical Engineering, and Nature Communications, with several of her findings cited in United Nations reports. She also serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Cleaner Production and is a regular peer reviewer for leading academic journals.
Prof. Chen's research focuses on low-carbon technology deployment, industrial decarbonisation pathways, and the social impacts of energy transitions. She evaluates the feasibility and adoption potential of key low-carbon technologies and develops decarbonisation strategies for hard-to-abate industries, supported by integrated assessments of technology evolution and capacity-expansion pathways. She is also interested in climate-related risk, the resilience of energy systems under extreme climate events, and the adaptation and risk management of critical energy infrastructure. Her research interests include:
- Deployment of low-carbon technologies
- Emissions reduction roadmaps and industrial decarbonisation strategies
- Feasibility and design of net-zero energy transition pathways
- Renewable energy expansion and system integration
- Social and distributional impacts of climate and energy policy
- Building resilience in energy systems under climate-related risks
