Summary
Yiyuan She is a statistician specializing in high-dimensional statistics, statistical machine learning, and optimization who left his professorship at Florida State University to join Westlake University in the summer of 2025, as part of a cohort of four mathematicians recruited from the US that season.
She earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a master's degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Peking University, then completed his PhD in statistics at Stanford University. He joined Florida State as an assistant professor of statistics in 2008, was promoted to professor in 2018, and was named a Fellow of the American Statistical Association in 2020 in recognition of his contributions to statistical science. He was also a recipient of an NSF CAREER Award and the department's Developing Scholar Award.
His research spans robust statistics, signal processing, and scalable nonconvex optimization with statistical guarantees for high-dimensional information computing. He joins fellow Westlake recruits Yuan Yuan (Syracuse University), Zhongwei Shen (University of Kentucky), and Hai Zhu (Flatiron Institute) in the university's Institute for Theoretical Sciences.
