Summary

Shi Guojun is a semiconductor materials and packaging expert who left the University of California, Irvine, after more than two decades to become chief strategic scientist and director of the Future Industry Research Institute at DK Electronic Materials, a major Chinese supplier of photovoltaic metallization paste used in solar cells, in March 2026.

Shi earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural meteorology from the Nanjing Institute of Meteorology in 1983 and a master's degree in micrometeorology from the University of Guelph in Canada, before shifting his research focus toward materials science and earning a doctorate in chemical engineering and materials science from Caltech in 1992. He went on to become a tenured professor at UC Irvine, where he taught for more than two decades and published over 200 academic papers.

At DK Electronic Materials, Shi will oversee planning and development in emerging industries, with a particular focus on the company's expansion into semiconductor memory manufacturing. He received the IEEE Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology Society's Outstanding Sustained Technical Contribution Award in 2010 for his work on optoelectronic packaging, advanced device materials, and manufacturing.
