Qianben Wang

Qianben Wang is a cancer researcher who left Duke University, where he held the Banks Anderson, Sr. Distinguished Professorship in Pathology and was a member of the Duke Cancer Institute, to lead a major national research institute in China in 2025.

His laboratory focuses on the transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms driving the progression of hormone-dependent cancers. His return reunites him in Beijing with his father, Wang Qi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and renowned traditional Chinese medicine researcher, and his brother Wang Qianfei, a professor at the Beijing Institute of Genomics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Their father gave both sons names meaning "to fly forward" and "to run forward" at birth, and their return has been described in Chinese media as the culmination of a multigenerational scientific family's journey.
