Chang Liu

Chang Liu (刘畛) is a robotics researcher who left a postdoctoral position at Cornell University's School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering to join Peking University's School of Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics as an assistant professor. He also serves as Chief Scientist of the Peking University–FirstMoveAI Joint Laboratory.

Liu earned dual bachelor's degrees from Peking University in 2011, in Electronic and Information Science and Technology, and in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. He then moved to the United States, earning an MS in Mechanical Engineering (2014), an MS in Computer Science (2015), and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (2017), all from UC Berkeley. Before returning to China, he also worked at Nvidia Corporation and Ford Motor Company.

His research focuses on embodied AI and multi-agent robot coordination. His work has received several honors, including the IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles Best Paper Award, an Honorable Mention for the IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering Best Application Award, a Best Paper Award finalist recognition at the RSS 2025 Multi-Robot Systems Workshop, and the ICCAS Best Student Paper Award. He serves as an Associate Chair for RSS and an Associate Editor for IROS, two of robotics' leading academic conferences.
