Noah Jäggi

Noah Jäggi is a physicist who left the University of Virginia to join TU Wien's Institute of Applied Physics as an APART-USA fellow, a programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences created specifically for postdoctoral researchers leaving American institutions amid the uncertainty affecting US science funding.

Jäggi's current research focuses on potential sputtering caused by multiply-charged solar wind ions. His PhD research examined the space weathering of atmosphere-free bodies through solar wind irradiation, with a focus on Mercury and the Moon. Working with collaborators at TU Wien, he performed irradiation experiments on representative samples, taking charge of selecting suitable samples, preparing them for irradiation experiments, and conducting pre- and post-irradiation sample analysis.

As a side project from 2020 to 2021, he led an interdisciplinary team modeling the potential surface alteration caused by the loss of an early atmosphere surrounding Mercury, work that culminated in an open-access paper published in The Planetary Science Journal.
