Jing Chen

Chen Jing is an award-winning computer scientist and blockchain expert who left the United States in early 2025 to join Tsinghua University in Beijing as a full-time professor in the Department of Computer Science, after spending 15 years in the US. She previously served as an assistant professor at Stony Brook University and as chief scientist and director of theoretical research at the blockchain company Algorand.

Chen earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science from Tsinghua in 2004 and 2007, then completed her PhD at MIT in 2012 under Turing Award laureate Silvio Micali. Her research spans blockchain, smart contracts, computational game theory, and mechanism design. She won the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2016.

Chen said she aims to bring "a dual perspective from academia and industry" to develop computational economics in China, addressing gaps in domestic blockchain research. She has published extensively in top computational theory and economics venues and previously served on program committees for major international conferences in the field.
