Huanyu Wang

Wang Huanyu is a former Apple semiconductor engineer who returned to China in early 2025 to teach at his alma mater, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Wuhan, as a professor in the newly established School of Integrated Circuits. He worked as a CPU implementation engineer at Apple's Cupertino headquarters from August 2021 to December 2024.

Wang graduated from HUST in 2014 before moving to the US to study and work in semiconductors for a decade. At Apple, he was involved in the development of several generations of the company's custom M-series chips, including the world's first 3-nanometer Apple M3 chip and the subsequent M4 series — both released commercially.

His return is expected to bolster the academic credentials of China's domestic integrated-circuit curriculum as the country pushes for self-sufficiency in semiconductors amid US export restrictions. HUST founded its IC school in 2023, joining more than ten Chinese universities — including Tsinghua and Peking University, both established in 2021 — that have built dedicated IC faculties to train the next generation of chip talent.
