Summary

Chen Hudong is an eminent computational physicist and elected member of the US National Academy of Engineering who left the United States after more than four decades to join Zhejiang University's College of Energy Engineering in China in early 2025.

Chen retired in April 2024 as scientific director of Dassault Systèmes, the French software multinational, ending a career centered on computational methods and high-performance computing for engineering applications. At Zhejiang University, he leads a new team addressing the strategic needs of China's energy transition, focusing on the digitalization, informatization, and intelligence of the energy sector, developing computational methods and software that integrate high-performance computing and artificial intelligence into energy engineering.
