Michael Sachs is a physical chemist who left a postdoctoral research position at Stanford University and the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, where he studied ultrafast science and photochemistry, to join the University of Vienna's Department of Physical Chemistry as an APART-USA fellow, a programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences created specifically for postdoctoral researchers leaving American institutions amid the uncertainty affecting US science funding.
