Summary
Su Hao is a leading AI robotics researcher who left a tenured associate professorship at the University of California, San Diego to appear on Fudan University's newly published faculty list as a professor in electronic information specializing in AI, confirmed in March 2026.
Su, who holds doctorates in both mathematics and computer science and completed his PhD at Stanford under Fei-Fei Li, established himself early in 2D and 3D computer vision and embodied AI before shifting focus to robotic AI. In 2020 his team developed SAPIEN, a simulation engine for modeling robot-human interactions, and in 2021 he launched the ManiSkill robot manipulation benchmark. In July 2025 he co-founded the AI robotics company Hillbot, focusing on industrial applications including automotive manufacturing and warehousing. He served as program chair of the 2025 Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) conference and received the CVPR Young Researcher Award and China's Frontiers of Science Award. His papers on embodied AI are among the most cited globally, with more than 145,000 citations.
